Carving gourds in her Kailua Kona, Hawaii Home.
A Little Bit about Penny King ~ Artist Penny King was born in Harvey, Illinois. Shortly after her birth, Penny’s parents desired a better climate and they relocated to Ontario, California. Penny grew up in a very happy home and was naturally influenced by her very creative and artistic mother. Penny loved drawing and painting with her neighborhood playmate, Babette Mayor. They spent numerous hours a week creating their undersea drawings and still-life illustrations. Babette went on to college after High School and got an art degree and Penny married. Penny soon found herself unfulfilled with just being a housewife and began to teach herself how to paint using oils. Shortly after the oil painting she took a silversmith class through Park and Recreation in the city of Ontario. Penny made many rings, earrings, and bracelets in silver and turquoise and gave them as gifts to family and friends. Soon thereafter, Penny found herself in another Park and Recreation class of ceramic clay hand-building and sculpture. Penny worked in clay for many years and this led to her ceramic jewelry business in 1985. Penny designed and sold ceramic jewelry for five years in California. Penny enjoys everything creative from designing a magnificent picturesque garden at her Hawaii home to preparing an appetizing, delightful and delicious meal for family and friends. Penny uses many of the beautiful flowers and plants in her garden as art subjects. Another favorite pastime for Penny is being with her grandchildren and all of her immediate family here in Hawaii. Penny says she is blessed to be in this gorgeous land, enjoying it's ravenous beauty and fabulous climate! Penny is resident artist at Kona Village Resort. Please visit Kona Village Resort website. Penny is also a member of Hawaii Craftsmen.
